So, you've compared your birthday to someone else's and now you want to know what those percentages mean. Well, please keep in mind, first and foremost, the compatibility percentages are meant for entertainment purposes only. In other words, they don't really mean anything except hopefully a few minutes of fun.

Obviously, though, those numbers are the same every time you put the same birthdays in there, so they must be coming from somewhere. If you're not already familiar with how biorhythms work, you may want to read the information on the "What Are Biorhythms" page before reading any further; otherwise, this may not make too much sense.

And, before I really explain where the numbers come from, let me preface this all by saying that in doing a little research for this project, I discovered something interesting. I tried a combination of over twenty online and desktop-based biorhythm calculating tools to see if I would get the same compatibility percentages given the same birthdays on all of the tools. To my surprise, no two tools gave me the exact same percentages. After doing some further investigating, I learned that the primary sources for learning about biorhythms seem to offer several different ways for calculating compatibility. I'm guessing this is where the differences in results come in. The numbers that RhythmRight generates are generally the same or within a percentage point of most of the biorhythm tools I tested. So, although the exact calculation is based on my own formula, I feel the results are still true to the spirit of biorhythm compatibility calculating.

Finally, here's the explanation.

As described on the "What Are Biorhythms" page, the three cycles (physical, emotional, and intellectual) are comprised of positive and negative phases. RhythmRight compares the biorhythms for the two birthdays you entered by calculating each person's daily biorhythms over a one thousand year period. When a cycle is simultaneously in the positive or negative phase of both people's graphs on the same day or when both people are having a critical day in the same cycle at the same time, that day is counted as match for that cycle. After all one thousand days are calculated, the matches for each cycle are divided by one thousand and the result is displayed as a percentage. What meaning you take from the percentage is really up to you, though.
